Description

This workshop is organized by Dieter Steiner and Marco Bähler from the Kryptett Overtone Group.

At a scientific conference our brains are struggling with the attempt to access stored knowledge and to think and argue logically and rationally. Singing exercises involve different cells of our brain and can thus provide a spiritually refreshing break. Overtone singing  has a meditative character. Overtones are natural tones, i.e., tones that do not follow the artificial structure of the twelve halftones between octaves as given by the keys of a piano. Instead they are tones as, for example, those produced by the wind blowing through a pipe. Physically overtones are integer multiples of the frequency of a basic keynote. Overtone singing consists then of producing a key note and then filtering out higher frequencies singly by modulating the resonance space given by mouth and throat.
