Facing the Future: Human Ecology and Higher Education
Invitation and Call for Papers
International Conference in Potsdam/Germany September 1st to 3rd. 2022
European College of Human Ecology in Cooperation with Potsdam Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) and Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK)
This conference aims to bring together the diversity of teachers, researchers, students and practitioners practicing inter- and transdisciplinary human ecological approaches. The international program will discuss the new challenges for academic and implementation-oriented work in the future. Participants will explore which concepts and approaches are suitable to support the required transformation and which of them are seen by the learners and designers of Generation Greta as suitable to address the complex and diverse challenges.
The organizers believe that an international exchange and action plan is urgently needed!
Our planet is on fire, literally with the forest fires induced by global warming or greed for profit, figuratively with the countless hotspots of various environmental problems around the globe. The alarm calls from scientific circles, which urge an urgent need for action, otherwise a terrible future threatens, are increasing. In the meantime, there are plans for a European "Green New Deal", which is supposed to bring our fragile civilization back on a sustainable and nature-compatible course.
At the international conference, scientists will present how they sustainably integrate global and local challenges into the research and teaching of their university community in order to solve real problems in cooperation with the population and authorities. Human ecology thus meets today the challenges of an education for the coming generations that is oriented towards the urgent questions of the future.
Topics of these future issues can be among others
- Safe food production and meal culture
- Climate impact adaptation in urban and regional planning
- Sustainable mobility in centers and periphery
- Human ecological approaches of reform pedagogy at universities
