Press release of the COHE owners

Since December 1, 2022, the recordings of the presentations and contributions of the Potsdam conference “Facing the Future - Human Ecology and Higher Education” have been publicly available on our website as a virtual conference for a broad audience.

From August 31 to September 3, 2022, the international conference “Facing the Future: Human Ecology and Higher Education” had taken place live and simultaneously online in Potsdam. Over 100 participants from all continents engaged in a global discourse on the challenges of education for future generations and examples of current implementations at universities that have already begun to follow this path.

Together with the Potsdam Institute for Advanced Sustainable Studies (IASS) and other partner organizations, we took a critical look at the future of higher education. We would like to thank everyone who took part in our conference and look forward to continuing the discourse we have started in the future. The foundation of a European network of human ecology will also serve this purpose.

COHE condemns the attack on Ukraine in violation of international law

Berlin & Zurich, March 15, 2022

The European College of Human Ecology has always considered itself responsible for a human ecology that is dedicated to the peaceful and safe coexistence of all people on this earth. The founders of human ecology also took into account their terrible experiences of slavery and the American Civil War. The work in and on the community of Jane Addams, John Dewey, William Isaak Thomas and Robert Ezra Park, for example, stood and stands for this

On February 24, 2022, Russia's power elite, under the leadership of Vladimir Putin and with the support of the Belarusian power elite, launched a military invasion of Ukraine in brutal violation of the Un Charter's prohibition of the use of force (Art. 2 para.4) and also in complete contradiction to and in grave disregard of agreements such as the Charter of Paris (1990) or the Budapest Memorandum (1994).

In the name of the human ecological tradition, we appeal to all parties involved, but especially to those responsible in Russia, to call off their war, to withdraw their troops and not to allow any further loss of innocent human life. We appeal to the international community to do everything possible to return to the path of diplomacy in this conflict.
