I. Voluntary Family Planning - Key for a Sustainable Future

Abstract

Two main drivers explain why humans have such large and far-reaching devastating effects like biodiversity loss, poisonous substances in the biosphere or climate change. One is the technological mastery of energy which serves as a huge leverage when interacting with the environment, and the other one is the excessive number of humans living on earth. To achieve a long-term wise balance between humans and all other beings
on earth, one pre-condition is a slow but steady decrease of the number of people down to a fraction of what we have today.

The talk presents key facts around this topic, explains why Africa plays an outstanding role in this regard in this century, and shows drivers of successful fertility reduction. It concludes with a brief presentation of Medi-Help, a private Non-Profit organization which provides at no or low cost maternal health and family planning material to low-income countries.

II. CITRA Construction: Reducing the Carbon Footprint by Innovative Building Technology

Abstract

Founded in 2016 in Cape Town, CITRA Construction (CC) has certified a building technology which reduces the CO2-emissions for both the building and the use by more than 50%. It consists of EPS (expanded polystyrene, also called Styropore), Magnesium-rips and special plaster applied inside and outside the building. The approach allows faster, cheaper and greener settlements, which offer better living conditions when it is very hot or cold outside.

Because it is almost impossible to acquire larger orders by independent land developers, CC has founded a captive client called CITRA Development (CD) in 2018. By now, CC has built 30 houses in this technology and will build close to 150 houses till end of next year.
The presentation explains the technology, the difficulties and the successes.
